Jared Fogle emerged from obscurity to become the unlikely face of one of the nation's biggest restaurant chains, earning a small fortune by touting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle that included Subway sandwiches.

But his wholesome public image was only that, and on Thursday he was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for trading in child pornography and having sex with underage prostitutes.

Fogle, 38, sought leniency, apologizing to his victims and telling the court in a tearful statement that he was raised with good values by a good family, but succumbed to self-centered "deception and lies." He said he wished he had realized long ago that he had a problem.

That's really tragic on his end. He was already at the top of his league, and now, it looks like he's down in the dumps.

I guess stories like this just go to show you can never tell what's going on behind closed doors, and while I'm sure most people will have a secret or two, not many will be hiding something as serious as this.

He's going to have one heck of a time in prison.

Your spot on there. While it's true that the prisons are full of criminals, some criminal activity is looked down on more than any other.

His type of crime is probably one of the most hated inside aswell as outside the prison walls, so I think he might be in a bit of trouble.

That's really quite alarming to read. Imagine this high profile person being involved in such a case. I must commend him for owning up to his mistakes but still...the crime has been done and more disturbingly, it involves minors. So he really must pay for his crimes. It's just sad that a person with that knowledge and experience can be able to do such a thing. It only goes to show that we are all humans and capable of mistakes even those who are beyond successful in terms of entrepreneurship.

I find it difficult to feel sorry for pedophiles. And what someone else above already said, he's likely to have a bad time of it in prison, unless they segregate him.

Child molesters don't last too long in the general population, from what I understand.

My question is: how on earth did he expect to not get caught? Not only is he a public figure, but he was literally the FACE of a successful fast food franchise.

And yes, as has been pointed out, inmates don't take too kindly to child diddlers. I am actually deeply concerned that Mr. Fogle will not live out his full sentence.

Some people might argue that because of the crime hrs committed, he doesn't deserve to live out his full sentence.

Some people can be rehabilitated and they can make a better life for themselves in the future but with this sort of crime, it tends to stick with them for the rest of their lives

I wouldn't wish death on anyone (although to be honest I AM a supporter of the death penalty), and you start to get into this weird sort of ethical and moral discussion over this issue--should I be wishing well for a child molester? My humanity and compassion reflexively wants him to be out of danger, yet at the same time what he did is unforgivable.
