In their most aggressive crackdown yet on auto safety, federal regulators on Sunday levied a record penalty of $105 million against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for failing to complete 23 safety recalls covering more than 11 million vehicles.

The civil penalty is the largest ever imposed on an automaker for recall violations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, surpassing the $70 million fine imposed last year on Honda for faulty airbags.

It also represents an escalation of the agency’s efforts to investigate and punish automakers that do not adequately recall and fix defective models.

All I can say is, GOOD!

I have a Pursuit, which was one of the 'coffin on wheels' put out by Pontiac (GM), knowingly with safety faults. People have died. I had enormous problems caused by the ignition but thankfully, no one was injured.

The big car companies are willing to let people get hurt or killed because they still make mega profits, even with hefty fines levied against them. Apparently, they aren't willing to use their consciences. Or they don't have any.
