Chris Zane is in the experience business. Whether he's selling bikes in his Connecticut store or filling orders for corporate rewards programs, he knows a successful business is about more than just selling stuff. Zane, 46, got his start at age 12 fixing bikes in his parents' East Haven, Connecticut, garage. At 16, he persuaded his parents to let him take over the lease of a bike shop going out of business, borrowing $23,000 from his grandfather at 15 percent interest.

Such an inspiring story. Well, obviously, he has already developed a fascination with bikes ever since he's 12 years old. It's like it's really his passion in life, and he tried to pursue it, and look at where he is now, he's a very successful and accomplished entrepreneur now.

Wow he started out really young! That's so great. I'm glad he became successful and found something he truly loved.

Great story! It's refreshing to hear about a successful "traditional" bike store that is independent or "family run". So often these days it's all about these massive, impersonal sports store conglomerates that dominate the market or on the other end of the spectrum, bespoke hipster bicycles and accessories ;).
